This page contains answers to common questions we have been asked

What is a DEA. ?

The role of the Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) is to survey properties and to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for inclusion in Home Information Packs (HIPs).   EPCs provide an energy cost calculation for the property and recommendations for improving the energy performance of the dwelling. The energy performance rating will be displayed on an A to G scale and will be recognised from its close resemblance to the certificates found on domestic white goods such as washing machines. The legislation which introduced HIPs states that, by regulation,  DEAs must be qualified and accredited persons and the regulations detail how this is achieved.

What is an EPC. ?

An Energy Performance Certificate is a report detailing the energy efficiency and the environmental impact of a property calculated by the RdSAP methodology against standard conditions so that all properties are assessed on a like for like basis. The report will also list improvements that can be made to improve energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of the building

How does it work .. ?

When you contact us we will send you a copy of our terms and conditions and a a simple questionnaire to enable the process  to go as smoothly as possible,

When we have received a signed copy of our engagement letter we will arrange a mutually convenient time to conduct the survey. We will send you a letter or email to confirm the details and provide a briefing on the process.

On the day of the survey, when we would like a householder to be present if at all possible, we will go through the details and conduct the survey. The EPC will be registered on the national database within 48 hours and a paper copy mailed first class post to an address you nominate if requested.

We offer a premium service at additional cost which will complete the process within 24 hours if required.

What are the benefits of having a EPC done.. ?

If you are marketing your house for sale it is a legal requirement.

If you are not thinking of moving it is still a sensible step which will give you an understanding of your property's relative energy efficiency and environmental impact and make recommendations that will reduce your energy costs and reduce the environmental impact of your home.

How long will it take ?

The actual survey will take between 1 and 3 hours mainly dependant on the size of the property. The  EPC will be delivered within 48 hours of the completion of the survey. We aim to complete the survey within 3 days of the EPC being commissioned but this does require a mutually convenient date and time to be available.

The 24 hour premium service we offer will complete the survey and deliver the EPC within 24 hours of the EPC being commissioned.
